TorchBurn

Undead mobs catch fire when they get close to a torch or lantern.

Torches and lanterns do more than keep mobs from spawning. The mobs that burn in sunlight also burn when they walk up to your lights, day or night.

How it works

A mob catches fire if it comes within 3 blocks of a light in any direction, up and down included. It burns for 3 seconds and keeps getting set on fire for as long as it stays close.

Which mobs burn

  • Zombies, husks, drowned, zombie villagers and zombified piglins
  • Skeletons, strays and wither skeletons
  • Phantoms

Creepers, spiders, endermen and the rest don't care about torches.

Things to know

  • It only works in the Overworld, not in the Nether or the End.
  • A helmet doesn't protect a mob from torch fire, unlike sunlight.
  • Water puts the fire out, so mobs standing in water mostly stay safe.
  • A ring of torches around your base is a good way to keep zombies from lingering by the door.
